What type of 'evidence' are you looking for? A five year study? 10? >Granted, there aren't a large number of municipal wireless systems, >but there are a few that have been running for a year or two. I know of one neighborhood here in LA that has been a huge impact, not measured financially (actually there is a measure), but in terms of bringing people together, particularly children. Imagine a residential block, some 40+ families living their homes, with some 30+ children in that 1/8th mile stretch of street... and not one of those children knows about the other 29 kids! Until free wifi is installed, and they discover each other, and that their net buddy lives just 2 homes down! From no kids ever seen on the street, to 2-8 kids playing together every day after school. >Wireless Internet is a fast-moving target. Not long ago it was 802.11b, >now people want 802.11g, it won't be long before they want 802.11n. That's mostly untrue that "they" will "want" faster net access. Sure, "we" all want it, but "new" users, getting free wifi A and B cards will be happy just to have it. And just how fast is A? Faster than low end broadband? Yes!!! >to be a system that is allowed to become obsolete, Obsolete is a tricky word. What is obsolete to you, a rich man, is gold to a poor man and his family, and seeing his children become smarter than he is. Hand me down wifi A or B (or G) cards can do this. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "SOCALWUG" group.
