Serveral options are able, (me or friends of mine were using in the past) but
please feel free to choose what fits best to you:
In Belgium the ISP´s or telephone companies not only serving one plain
standard, it is a mixture between Anex A and Anex B are used, so please
reffer your documentations or ask your ISP what kind of standard he is
offering to you, so you know what devices you are able to use or buy!!!!

External options:
1.) You look for a plain ADSL2+ modem like the D-LINK DSL-321B ADSL2+ MODEM.
This is an external plain modem for 20 - 40 € and does fit your wiches and
needs. The following link is shows you are datasheet (in german):
"ftp: // ftp. dlink.
de/dsl/dsl-321b/documentation/DSL-321B_db_de_Datenblatt.pdf"
Useable with all variants of Soekris Boards, but I suggest to take a net5501
for your current need or a net6501 for the current and further or up comming
actions and needs.
Comes with a web frontend and is able to hold the line (permanent connected) to
the internet.

2.) NETGEAR DM111PBL ADSL2+ Ethernet Modem - 24 Mbps DSL-Modem, was used at
first be my self with net5501-70 and pfSense or ZeroShell. Not the kick ass
option and so stable like the D-Link modem, it was finding a fast way to be
sold through ebay, ;) the cost is also like the D-Link 20 - 40 €.

Internal options:
1.) AVM FRITZ!Card DSL SL PCI DSL-Modem is an internal PCI Adsl2+ modem witch
can be connected in the Soekris net5501 series, I suggest to take some care on
future wiches of you and that means
Please have a look on the net5501-70 variant please. More ram soldered on board
and we all know what we want to do today, but nobody knows what we need or want
to use tomorrow (features) and if
you want to use a linux based system we also know it can not be enough ram in,
to let it run smoother and Soekris have made new interesting prices for that
modell because the net6501 series comes out.
And I don’t know that the needed drivers comes with debian!!!!!! I used this
card with Soekris net5501-70 in combination with OpenSUSE 11.4 only!!!!!
Because the SUSE companie is verry familiar and stay connected with the avm
companie, so they are supporting all avm products in their OpenSUSE OS since
version 9.2!!!!!! but don’t worry about with the new version 11.4, it comes a
web yast within this system, that means the configuration is also web based and
tiny fast to do. Perhaps not on your willing, but I thought better to tell you
first. The following links will let you a fast look over the products.
"

 - Datasheet
"

 - handbook

2.) Viking PCI ADSL 2+ modem with a Soekris net5501 but I havent ever used
this!!! The next link is showing up a technical doc for the device.
http://www.traverse.com.au/downloads/adsl/viking_oem-08.pdf

A tipp of me please have a look at www. avm. de the routers in there are not so
expensive and offers you more features you need, (perhaps later) but most of
them let you upgrade and change the firmware (Annex A or Annex B) perhaps good
to know, if you want to change your ISP at one day and the routers all
supporting the bridging mode for the modem also. I bought a AVM 7390 modell and
connect a analog fax device, my isdn phone, my printer, and with 512 MB
internal storage as a nas or reachable over dydns as ftp space, also if the
internet connect is not up I am able to use a usb 3g / umts modem as fallback
line in the second usb port. I still waiting till the day the Soekris net6501
with 1,6GHz and 2 GB ram (for pfSense 2.0) are coming out, then I will have an
dual homed firewall with a real and clean dmz to store a LaCie d2 Network 2
with 1 TB in the dmz. And all are supporting GB LAN, will be for a long time
useable and enough for me.

At last I will say it seems to be the best to buy an external cheap modem, it
do his job and must only fit the Anex standard you use.
