Hi all! I've seen some talk on this list from people who lament the
lack of an internal IDE bridge for Compact Flash cards like the Net4x
and Net5x series had. I miss that nice flash slot too, so I thought
you'd be interested to see a small hack I did in my lab today.

To build a PFSense firewall on a Net6501 without using mSATA or large
disks, I located a Micro USB key (4GB) with the right dimensions that,
when disassembled, fits perfectly into a Net6501 case.

After flashing the firmware to USB boot and installing PFSense (from a
second USB key on the front of the case) I have a Net6501 with an
internal, securely-mounted USB boot device and a free USB port on the
front to store firewall config backups.
