Jeff,

I did some testing on my 6501. I first tried it to be a NAS, and got to compare
the same eSATA
PCIe card there and in an intel 525 atom board. What I was to blame the CPU, on
a second thought,
I saw it was much easier to be caused by all bus bottleneck on the board
design. It was just not
meant to be used that way. The throughput on the mini itx atom was more than 4x
what the soekris
got me.

so, as you say this about the atom board, it doesn't come to me as a surprise.
but as I said,
would be much secure for me to do the test again, and send the screen. I don't
know if I have pure
FreeBSD for the test, so the test could be more thorough.

I wouldn't blame it on intel driver. but the cpu was not really 100%.

someone else must have done this test as well, and could give you more accurate
numbers. what kind
of traffic you intend to pass on it ?
