A friend tried to etch his own from the layouts and gave up. It wasn't the registration as he is OK on double layer boards, and has done lots before, you can centre drill the mounting holes and use those. What he had trouble with was the very fine artwork, and either etched away the tracks or didn't get them to be isolated from the ground planes. In the end he did his own layout, with the surface mounts on the reverse side. I'll see if he will lend me the layouts.
