I can really recommend Guillaumes addon. As Jens said we were using it on our last project and it did the job perfectly. It is not fast, and you definitely don't want to forget to freeze the model (like I did after a 2 hour calculation), but then you can just add all sort of attributes for usage in the rendertree.
