I am looking to emit particles from a modeled volume, but starting in one
place and then gradually from an area moving through the object. Imagine a
solid item starting to dissolve into dust which flies away, but not the
whole thing at once but starting in one place, then gradually dissolving
all of it.

I guess I will need to work with states, but the factory sample scenes were
not incredibly helpful here, so I am wondering if there are any tutorials
or other places to look for this type of effect.
