I think the people who are in that position to do so are doing the following.
Sticking with softimage for as long as they can Evaluating their options on the side to see what may work for them in the future. I doubt anyone is going to totally go cold turkey, but the small amount of trust that was there for AD for a lot of people has gone. Its really up to them to earn it back. People have realised that their livelihood has become too dependent on factors they cannot control and in a lot of cases will be in the dark about. This is where the alternatives which are not bound by the rules that AD has to work under become far more attractive. FE, Houdini, Modo all have people who are very involved in the communities in a positive way. Maya 3 years down the line might be a great replacement for Softimage, then agin 3 years of development on FE, Houdini or Modo could leave them in the dust. On the open source side you do have blender as a framework. Blender + subscription money that was heading to AD but is now going into Blender development projects has the potential to be awesome. You want a specific tool in Blender use that ex sub money to get it built. Think this process will carry on for some time. Its not going to be decided when the 2015 versions get released. In reality that is just the start of the process.
