I didn't perceive it as a dig, I just thought it was over the top. I know a lot of these things because I was there. In today's terms its more the case of being last of the Mohicans as I'm in a small club of people still working in production today (as opposed to management or other role) that used NURBS for main work. Funny this topic should come up as this past month I've been modeling NURBS surfaces for a tool I'm building to remodel clothing between characters. This is the first hands-on art I've done in several years as I mostly write code these days.
