Although this might be completely off the mark but which renderer are you using? I have seen similar problems with namespaces in Arnold. In case you are using Arnold, please make sure that the each node a unique name. Softimage handles unique namespaces in inside models, but this model based namespaces do not translate as is in arnold .ass files.
In case of other renderers this may not be an issue.
