The Trill waited until the two were gone before speaking to the Lieutenant.
"I must admit that this is a new arena for me, Lieutenant. I would
appreciate some advice on this matter."

"Well, Commander I have been doing this for a litte while now, and I have
learned one truth that over rides all others. In the world of politics and
diplomacy one often has to do something wrong before he can accomplish
something that is right. My best advice is to be true to your primary
responsibility, and let the others fall into their own place. Mine to to
make sure that the diplomats get what they need, and to assist them
interface with the various levels of Starfleet. That includes helping them
through situations like this.

While I am not telling you what your job is, I am only guessing that your
job is to see to the safe and smooth operation of this station. Just follow
that...

In another note, Starfleet and Customs have never really gotten along
particularily since they share joint jurisdiction on this station. Pissing
contests are part of the job, so do nto worry too much about annoying them.
Just try to avoid it getting to the level of say the Director of Federation
Customs. That always means that the CinC gets involved and the politicians
start throwing sharp objects for him to catch. I nearly caused one of those
incidents on my first day, and that is why I am a Lt instead of a Lt.
Commander. " he said with a smile. Personally, I would suggest making an
appointment to see the security chief of the Bajoran Consulate or even the
Ambassador. His office is in the embassy that is in the city of Oakland.
If you talk to him about the situation you may be able to deal with the
situation within the law and very quietly. I an set up an meeting if you
wish. Oh, and another thing, sir. Going to the press with this... a bad
idea. Going to the press is always a bad thing."

Dais was not quite sure where the press came into this. "When I made a
comment about their superior reading about this incident, I never meant in
the paper, Lieutenant. Memos would be a much more appropriate way to
correspond about this incident. The papers don't always stick to the facts
in their rush to get the scoop. My intention was to communicate personallly
with their superior to make that complaint."

(reaction)

"Thank you for your advice, Lieutenant. I will definitely make an
appointment to meet with the Bajoran Ambassador."

(Anything else)

With that finished, Dais made his way to the diplomatic area of the station
and reported to the Bajoran consulate. He walked up to the receptionists
desk. "Excuse me, I was wondering if I might be able to speak with the
Bajoran Ambassador. I am Commander Dais, Executive Officer of the station."

(response)

Jack
