> The records on the investigation were all in order, and from
appearances looked by the book. They were kept quite secret, and that was still
troubling. The report covered several officers that were rumored to have some shady
stuff going on, on the side. While the investigation confirmed much of that, the big
surprise was that more than a few had earned a reputation falsely. Other officers
that were rumored to be dealing in contraband were dealing with a supply system that
was out of
control. They had to deal with the black market to get some basic supplies. While
the investigation did not detail the cause of this problem, it definaely looked as if
those responsible were only a few months away from being caught.

> A mild surprise was the number of Starfleet officers and enlisted were actually
>involved in activity that could land them in the brig. In total there were over 900

>
> On the lighter side was the number of Starfleet folks actually helping out in the
>investigation. More that 10% of those on the other list were also helping the
>investigation. From the looks of things, most of the 'helpers' did not know that
>they were doing something illegal or against
regs, and were onyl too glad to help. Sadly, others were just too afraid of going to
prision not to help.

> Also listed in the report was the evidence gathered. From inventories to
>statements to recordings from bugs and taps. Forensic evidence was also cataloged.
>Lasiter and his people had truely been busy, very quiet, but busy.

>She closed the box and put it into her locked cabinet in her office and then headed
>out to San Jose to meet at Scott's Grill. She was early, and the waited seated her.
>She ordered a drink - she needed it.

>She was not there long before Captain Alexander and his boss, Rear Admiral Jora,
>arrived. They spotted the Caitian, and walked over.

> "Admiral Kitanya, thank you for meeting with me." the Admiral said in greeting.
Kitanya nodded to both of them politely. "Not a prrroblem," she replied, gesturing
for them to join her at the table. "I hope you both like fish. The grrrilled
petrrrale is exquisite herrre."
"Fish is great. I have a hard time finding places that serve it well. Thank you
for suggesting this place." she answered.
"So, what can I do forrr you?" she asked Jora.
"I wanted to pass along some news and events to you. As you know, I, and a few
others, had a meeting with the CinC a while back. He outlined some of his
initiatives, and the group discussed them. I was rather impressed with what he had to
say. If I am not mistaken we discussed this before while you were on assignment..."
she said pausing to confirm.

"Well, the news then is that he and I have been in contact several times since
then. We further discussed some of his initiatives, and spoke of some of the things
that I was doing in my command to make change in Starfleet. I have learned that he
had done similar things with other in the original meeting, and that his personal
involvement has largely been welcomed.
The point that I am trying to make is that he is developing a small following, and
I have come to believe that our group's current course, while still holding promise,
could do more harm than good. At least short term. Admiral Lasiter is not the out of
touch, outsider that Kettering thinks he is. I believe that Admiral Lasiter's
approach, while admittedly slow and plodding, offers Starfleet something unique.
Change and reform without fracturing the fleet. Admiral Kettering is planning on
announcing his plans this evening, at least in part. Plans on taking down the CinC
and much of Starfleet Command. Kettering intends to begin with character
assassination and shoring up ties with other 'factions' within the fleet. Once that
is well underway, he will start to openly defy the CinC, stripping him of credibility,
and then making a move for the top center chair. For all the good that Kettering is
trying to do, I fear that he will not hesitate to trample good officers in the process
of his power grab. Frankly, the longer I listen the more I think that a power grab is
all that this is about."
