> "Then you have picked a good day to do just that." he said smiling. "Shall we go
>in."
She nodded and went with him.
>As they turned to enter the hall, another officer entered the doors just behind them.
> It was Rear Admiral Tyrus Lasiter, and he looked perplexed by something. Not at the
>two standing in front of him, but something else. It took nearly three seconds
>before he recognized that the two others were Starfleet. He was definately running
>over something in his head.
>
>"Oh, excuse me. Vice Admiral Kitanya, Commander, please excuse my manners."
"Not at all, Admirrral," she said, noting his preoccupation.
>"If you both will excuse me, I need to see Admiral Kettering." he said as he walked
>past them.
>
> "That was strange. He is one of the calm and collected ones." the Commander
>commented.
"I know," she nodded. She wondered what Lasiter had told him after she'd left. It
was something that bore heavily on the younger Lasiter's mind. "Well, let's get this
show on the rrroad." She was preparing in her mind what she would say if Kettering
wanted a showdown that night. She doubted
he'd call her out so fast; he would have no real information and he didn't seem the
type to get into a situation where he didn't know how it would turn out. But she was
prepared, just in case.
When she went in, she greeted people in a friendly manner, smiling, shaking hands,
playing the politician. This had to look real, and she had played the game enough in
her time to know how to proceed. She talked to everyone, including those in the
Kettering camp, just to try and make them second-guess themselves.
As she was making her rounds, she saw Kettering doing the same. She also saw the
young Lasiter tear Kettering away from his hand shaking to give him some kind of
warning. Lasiter was making a good case, at least it looked like it. Kettering for
his part did not look convinced or impressed.
{thoughts, if any?}
Jora came by, interrupting Kitanya's hand shaking at Lasiter did for Kettering.
"Admiral Kitanya, welcome. I am pleased to say that there is a great deal of
interest in you and your consideration of the top slot. The officers here want to get
to know you. They want to hear what you have to say. Shall I say congratulations..."
