> "My brother was telling me a story of when we were kids competing at everything from sports to academics, and I was always known as Samuel Lasiter's kid brother. Samuel was good at school work, I was the star athlete of the family. As a result we did very different things. I would get into a bit more trouble. Well, one day he told me, as I was being grounded for the 30th time, that the reason that Dad knew so much was that he was always watching and listening. I did not know what he meant, until I went to the Academy and Samuel was there serving as a training officer while taking some graduate classes. The first time he nailed me on some cadet prank he told me and the others involved that he was always watching and listening....." he went on to describe the incident that he was nailed for. Admittedly it was rather amusing, in hindsight, and yet typical for a cadet of his make. More importantly, Kitanya knew that the CinC had put the fear of the Almighty in the Admiral sitting right next to her.
She chuckled at the incident. "Oh, I rrrememberr those days. I got a few demerrrits myself, except mine tended to be forrr fighting. I was rrraised by a Caitian and a Klingon, and trranferred herrre frrrom the Klingon Starrr Academy, so I had verrry differrrent ideas about how differrrences werrre to be settled." She sighed, then related the time she challenged a senior cadet to an honor duel, and then after he'd doled out demerits for that, had called him a coward for not accepting, which, of course, had earned yet more demerits. "Although, I can't say what it would have been like if it had been my own kin that had come down on me," she added. "That couldn't have been easy to take."
