K'Tael tapped a few buttons on his console to bring up VanDerLoo's current
assignment in the hopes of getting the details of what his posting
entailed along the lines of responsibilities, any reviews he had had since his
posting, and the overall status of the geographical location.
"Perhaps we can find some answers by examining his current posting."

The new information was also an interesting read.? Rear Admiral Van Der Loo is a
district commander, and under his command are 3 starbases- one orbital, one planet
bound, and his command post which is "free floating" in space as is DS9.? He is also
the theater commander for one of the 6 police actions that are currently underway
within the Federation.? He oversees the onsite commander, and directs the operation on
strategic and political matters.? He has been given high marks in improving relations
between starfleet and the local planetary governments, but has also been characterized
as being a bit too slow or dilberate in his actions.? Sometimes taking days to issue
orders on situations that require them in hours.? Officially he is a pretty good
officer.? Unofficially, his field commanders hate him.? They complain of a serious
lack of support from him, and a plodding nature that forces them to improvise, only to
be chastized for thier actions.? Or as Van Der Loo puts it, poor planning.

K'Tael glanced toward Joe, who had also had time to read the information. "It would
seem that our Admiral has a bit of duality in his image,"

"Quite so. Could be he is working on bahalf of the local government, delaying
Starfleet action or curtailing it. That could be buying time for the locals to do
some really shady stuff. Or worse, he could be feeding bad intell, so our folks end
up committing the crimes."

"Computer, please bring up some of the details of the police action that Van Der Loo
is working on."

This particular police action is based on the local government's need to control a
violent rebel faction. This rebel element has committed various acts of violence from
bombings to arson to blanket intimidation to assults and riots. When things got out
of hand, Starfleet was called in to help keep the peace- control the streets with
patrols, etc. However, the mission has turned into a mini Vietnam.
