t'Llhweiir ended the connection with the other admirals, then she rose to her
feet.

> As they started to get up to depart, Lasiter added, "Rear Admiral Smallwood
> and Admiral t'Llhweiir please remain."

She nodded but continued standing.

"Smallwood, I have certain expectations. They are not unattainable or unreasonable,
but they are inviolable. All you have to do is to take responsibility for your
decisions and actions, lead by example, and work as hard for your people as you expect
them to work for you. Very simple. Meet or surpass these few expectations, and I
will be your best and loudest supporter. Fail, and I will do nothing to help you.
Cross me, and I will destroy you. Got it.

I never want you to shirk the responsibility that was given you again. Take ownership
of the problems, and publically commit yourself to their resolution. That's what I
require. Do you understand me, Rear Admiral?", Lasiter said stern enough to curtle
milk.

It was all too plain that the CinC was angrier than hell, but there was more to it
than that. Lasiter also knew Smallwood was an arrogant son of a something, and needed
to be dropped a peg or two. Smallwood would now be very much invested in making all
sorts of improvements to Starfleet Security and to improving communication and
cooperation with Starfleet Intell. This "talking to" was part just plain anger at the
man, but also, in equal measure, designed to play to Smallwood's personality.
Afterall, a good leader knows just how to motivate the unique individuals that he
leads. For Smallwood, it just takes a reality check every now and again.

"Yes, Admiral Lasiter, Sir. I understand.", the other said the cockiness gone.

"Good. Dismissed."

The conversation now ended, Smallwood departed to get his act together. Alone with
his Chief of Staff, Lasiter could relax.

"It went well, I think. Smallwood is now where he should be, not resting on his
laurels. Thoughts?"
