>Melora was surprised by the comment.  At the same time, she was also ruing

>"You have got to be joking," replied Valtris with a sarcastic laugh.  "We
>are not talking about political policy here.  We are trying to determine
>whether you are holding the founder of this body as a political prisoner.
>That is not an internal policy problem.  That is an individual rights

Watson spoke up, "Ambassador Damesh, I truly believe if we can rectify this
issue it could lead to a more compatible working environment between all of
us in the future..." He looked at Valtris to make the point,  "We should not
allow this to be a roadblock built now towards working together in the
future. This should be an issue that can be resolved quickly. We see and
speak with the former Ambassador and it's resolved."

(Valtris?)

Rilg joined in.  "Ambassador Damesh, our attempts are not meant to infringe on Cardassian sovereignty.  In fact, by your own report, Mr. Dulath is a free citizen so speaking with him would not infringe on your judicial freedom or political policy.  We just want a guarantee and proof that he is healthy and safe."

Melora eyed the group.  It was clear that she was suspicious of their actions, but there was little that she could do.  She was trapped and could do nothing to keep this up.  "I can only tell you what has been reported to me by the government I represent.  Central Command has informed us of its answer.  I do not believe that they will change their minds about this.  Golan Dulath will not be coming to this station.  That does not mean that representatives of this body could not try to go to Cardassia Prime to meet with him in person.  You are all protected by diplomatic immunity."  It was probably not the response they wanted, but it was the best that she could do.  It was also probably the nicest that any of them had ever seen her be.
