Ael held the woman's steady gaze for a few moments, allowing the silence to
> settle.  Finally she shrugged, and lifted her mimosa to her lips yet again.

So much said without admitting anything.  Bedru smiled.  "Ah, yes, I'm sure that
they were solely motivated by the wish to see a former colleague freed."  She
even managed to sound sincere, though with no expectation that Ael would
believe that.

"Has this other 'group' considered the possibility that the Cardassians might
not be receptive to the Council's intervention?"
There was a moment's silence as Ael tried to decide if the woman was for real.  She finally sighed.  "I should think," she said finally, "that any group used to having dealins with the CArdassians would *know* that the Cardassians would not be at all receptive to anyone's intervention.  No one could possibly be that naive."
