Strangely, Carrhae found that she wanted Ael's friendship. She knew that the
woman had similar standards regarding honor and--also importantly--she had
developed a close friendship with Matt. "Somehow, I would not be surprised
either.

They had entered her master suite and crossed to a sitting room off the
bedroom. After offering Ael a seat at a table with various small refreshments, Carrhae palmed a recessed cabinet and drew out a decanter. She found two glasses and set them on the table. As she poured the blue-tinted libation, she replied, "You have little to worry about in that regard. I believe one of the reasons
he invited you this evening was that he hoped we would come to at least
tolerate one another."
Ael was reaching for the glass as Carrahe said that. "Indeed," she said, considering that prospect for the first time. She had assumed she was simply here because of her close friendship with Matthew. But the other presumption did make sense. "The one certainly is devious. For a human," she said.
