Sadly, many people refuse to run and hide from spammers.

By coincidence, I received an email this morning from someone who hadn't
contacted me in over two years. If I'd been doing what you say, and using
temporary email addresses, I wouldn't have received his message. I myself
refuse to sacrifice _my_ enjoyment of the Internet, caused my messages
such as that one, just so that some spammers can pound my mailbox with
impunity.

The rather obvious counter-analogy to this would be locks on doors to
stop thieves. When there's a risk of his house getting burgled, your
"Internal control focus" guy will fit better locks on his doors. But
wait! Locks on doors don't interfere with my ability to receive visitors,
because I have a doorbell. When my doorbell rings, I look through
my window and I can see if it's anyone I want to talk to. Then I
can unlock my door and let them in.

James.
