Good point. I hadn't thought about it, since my current array of anti-virus safeguards hasn't allowed any into my system lately, but the average joe is not going to be as diligent or as paranoid as I am, and that would well be a serious threat. Come to think of it, I might hesitate to connect *my* computer to the internet if it had real money in it. But I mentioned *two* technologies needed for successful implementation, one of which is micromoney, and the other is secure, un-forgeable email. Maybe an approximation to the latter might be possible with public-key encryption. Imagine requiring anyone who wishes to write me to have to use my public key... If enough people did that, it might bog the spammers down a bit. So far, the best available technology for spam-fighting appears to be the so-called 'Bayesian' filtering. Apparently, the fairly simple scheme described at http://www.garyarnold.com/projects.php#bayespam isn't really Bayesian, but the name appears to have stuck anyway. The current work on self-adapting content filters appears to be happening entirely on the Linux side of the world. I did send off a note to the developers of Forte Agent (the newsreader that I use) asking them if they would be interested in building such a tool into Agent. They indicated a polite interest, but I doubt if there was any enthusiasm. -- Howard Lee Harkness Texas Certified Concealed Handgun Instructor www.CHL-TX.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ spamcon-general mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.spamcon.org/mailman/listinfo/spamcon-general#subscribers Subscribe, unsubscribe, etc: Use the URL above or send "help" in body of message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Contact administrator: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
