I don't use iCloud or MobileMe, so I had to do some extra work to reset 
Sync Services.  This page <https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627> gave me the 
info I needed.  I executed the command line/Python script mentioned in step 
10 under *Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and OS X Lion.

*Spanning Sync is now spanning and synching my Mac and Google contacts and 
calendars.
