You've identified the top sources already.  The first thing I normally do is
just run the program without any options or parameters.  Most of the
commands will return some sort of help.  You can also try using "-h",
"--help", or "--man", it might work for some programs.  I also they check
the TPP wiki and google if I'm not having much luck.  If all else fails you
can always post here and get an answer.
