Hi all,
OK. Almost completely there now. I read Titoune's /etc/ppp/peers/adsl
script and noticed something wierd at the bottom.
#lcp-echo-interval 600
lcp-echo-interval 0
#lcp-echo-failure 10
lcp-echo-failure 25
One line in plog was: Aug 2 20:15:11 enterprise pppd[563]: LCP: timeout
sending Config-Requests
I added to /etc/ppp/peers/adsl :
lcp-echo-interval 0
lcp-echo-failure 25
Connected. Took assigned IP address and was able to ping the remote peer.
So these lcp-echo settings were the key.
Question: is this a common problem? Is it worth emailing Benoit and asking
him to put these line in his suggested config on
http://benoit.papillault.free.fr/speedtouch/user.html and for us non-French
speakers on http://benoit.papillault.free.fr/speedtouch/user.en.html
Answer: I don't know what lcp-echo does and thus would not presume to
advise. But if someone on this list does know why this makes a difference,
perhaps we should ask to have it in the suggested script.
