Mandrake 8.2? Latest version is 8.1?
It would appear to me that you've installed the Alcatel modem management software, but are trying to use the user-space driver with it (i.e. the one this list is related to) - naturally this won't work very well! Fortunately the alcatel mgmt driver does support uninstall, if I recall its something like "make uninstall" from the directory where you unpacked the management tool, which will rip out its hotplugging script. In order to use the modem under Mandrake you need to download and untar the Alcatel management software, COPY mgmt.o to /usr/share/speedtouch/, update /usr/share/speedtouch/speedtouch.sh appropriately and run the draknet wizard. All the best, Tim. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Martin West" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 6:26 PM Subject: [speedtouch] Help with Mandrake 8.2 > > I installed Mandrake 8.2 download, specifying the speedtouch adsl modem. peers/adsl at the end. > > The system is partially working in that the device is recognised when hotplugged, except there is a not claimed message, not sure if this is significant ... > Dec 5 15:03:46 mandrake1 kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 3 > > Dec 5 15:03:46 mandrake1 kernel: usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x6b9/0x4061) is not claimed by any active driver. > > Dec 5 15:03:47 mandrake1 Speedmgmt[2614]: Alcatel SpeedTouch USB Management daemon started. > > Dec 5 15:03:47 mandrake1 Speedmgmt[2614]: (C) Alcatel 2001, Version 1.3.4 > > Dec 5 15:03:47 mandrake1 kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout > > Dec 5 15:03:47 mandrake1 kernel: usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_BULK failed dev 3 ep 0x85 len 512 ret -110 > > Dec 5 15:03:47 mandrake1 Speedmgmt[2614]: Preceding (timeout) error messages are normal. > > but when I start pppd call adsl I get ... > > Dec 5 15:15:36 mandrake1 kernel: CSLIP: code copyright 1989 Regents of the University of California > > Dec 5 15:15:37 mandrake1 kernel: PPP generic driver version 2.4.1 > > Dec 5 15:15:37 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0 > > Dec 5 15:15:37 mandrake1 kernel: HDLC line discipline: version 3.2, maxframe=4096 > > Dec 5 15:15:37 mandrake1 kernel: N_HDLC line discipline registered. > > Dec 5 15:15:37 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Using interface ppp0 > > Dec 5 15:15:37 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/5 > > Dec 5 15:15:38 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Modem hangup > > Dec 5 15:15:38 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Connection terminated. > > Dec 5 15:15:38 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Using interface ppp0 > > Dec 5 15:15:38 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/5 > > Dec 5 15:15:39 mandrake1 pppd[2686]: Modem hangup > > peers/adsl > > noauth > > noipdefault > > pty "/usr/bin/pppoa2 -vpi 0 -vci 38" > > sync > > kdebug 1 > > noaccomp > > nopcomp > > noccp > > novj > > holdoff 4 > > maxfail 25 > > persist > > usepeerdns > > defaultroute > > user [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > Thanks Martin West > > PS I did download the latest drakxtool and tried reconfiguring.
