Another experience perhaps...
I had two pc's at home, one was a suse, the other one a debian. Both ran
(except for the network card driver) exactly the same kernel, a 2.4.9
patched for the ext3 filesystem and the pppoatm patch. On the SuSE (the
first one I tried to install the "kernel" driver, everything went just
fine. However, when trying to do exactly the same on the debian machine,
the speedmgmt binary from alcatel failed also (and with the binary only,
it's hard to figure out what's wrong if you're not an expert :-((
So, I tried a fresh 2.4.17 without any patches on the debian and Benoit's
drivers, and everything worked out of like a charm, 10 times faster than
the clean installation of the kernel drivers...
My choice is made :-)
