I seem to have a connection now though I'm not quite sure how I just got it
working. Anyway, thanks for all the help and once this thing looks stable

Basically I had a problem with vcp.vci and then with no pppoatm module. Also,
for now, beware Peter of syslog. Once it stopped spewing random stuff I found
# pppd call speedtch
a much more effective method for debugging because one sees the errors
generated by modprobe etc.
