Hi.

Yes, it's true that linux driver loads firmware into modem at boot time.
But the windows driver does the same thing. The firmware is erased as
soon as the computer is turned off or modem is unplugged. It means that
your problem is not caused by linux driver at all.
Honestly, I don't know where the problem may be. Does the windows driver
even try to upload the firmware into modem? (the modem lights should be
flashing for a while)
