Hello,

My new SpeedTouch 330 (silver, revision 4.00) modem gets disconnected
very often when it's
under heavy loads, eg. when I'm using DC or similar apps.
I've been trying to sort it out for last 3 days now, but no effects so
far :|.

These are a few last lines of 'grep "Connect time" messages | uniq -3'
output:

May 16 09:52:32 adeon pppd[36]: Connect time 37.8 minutes.
May 16 10:12:02 adeon pppd[8790]: Connect time 18.3 minutes.
May 16 10:47:42 adeon pppd[6453]: Connect time 34.0 minutes.
May 16 11:09:37 adeon pppd[18545]: Connect time 20.9 minutes.

When the modem gets disconnected the following messages appear in the
log files:

The version of the software on my machine is:
speedtouch 1.3.1
kernel 2.4.30 (+grsec)
pppd 2.4.2b3
The system runs on AMD K6-2 400MHz processor, 96MB RAM, Luckystar mainboard.
The link speed is 640kB/128kB .

I have found a webpage describing a similar error:
http://www.hystedjp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/history.htm .
I tried to use john5_modem_run and john5_pppoa3 programs, but this
version fails to upload the firmware to the modem
(this happens with other versions too). Only the 1.3.1 version of
modem_run is able to upload the firmware correctly.

This is lspci -v output:

I have no idea what causes the probles. May it be a faulty modem,
hardware USB port or bad isp's link quality?

Any help will be appreciated, because to get disconnected every a few
minutes is quite annoying
(eg. it destroys all transfers in DC).

Cheers,
Adam
