Now I know it's definitely the VIA USB chipset fault, because 
disconnections happen with a different modem (Sagem Fast 800 borrowed 
from a friend). I will have to buy an additional PCI USB controller, 
hope it will help.
The VIA USB chipset bug was also confirmed by people on other news groups.
