I really don't get this whole arguement - that the TR7/8 is not a 'real'
Triumph (or even a 'real' TR) because it doesn't have a separate frame.

Granted, the styling of the TR7 is a subject of deeply divided opinion. But
that shouldn't affect its legitimacy. Those who say it is not a 'real' TR -
what do they think Triumph should have done? Continued to up-grade a
vehicle that had been re-hashed 6 times over the previous 20 years or so,
and continue with a chassis which, good in it's time, had definitely had
it's day? Or look to the future, design a car for the future, with the
technology that everyone (bar off-roaders and Morgan) would be using in the
future if they weren't already.

Ultimately they failed, due to a disastrous industrial situation in the
entire British Leyland congolmorate at the time, and not to do with the
fundamental design of the car. But the question must be asked - if the
Triumph brand had not disappeared, the TR7 would, surely, be seen as the
first of the Second Generation TRs, and as such an entirely legitimate
Triumph.

Don't forget that a TR7-V8 will whip the arse off any other Triumph on the
race-track, as the TR Register race series proved time and time again... (or
does going fast and handling well also disbar it from being a real
Triumph??)

Only one Triumph can really have it's legitimacy questioned - the Accord,
which was really a badly-built Honda with a Triumph badge on...
