Oh, I think it's a real TR - it is an affordible high performance sports
car for it's time. Sure there are much higher HP things out there from
Japan today, as the TR8 was a considerably superior car to say a 4 or 6.

I was commenting on the characteristic I most notice about all the
Triumphs I've ever been associated with - the rattle and bang. I believe
most of that comes from body parts which move at a different rate than the
frame, doors which flex/move in their frames and bonnets/boots which
aren't fully "cushioned". I don't think there's anything wrong with
these, but they are quite different feeling from something from Japan or
Germany.

No, I am in agreement with you - I liked the upgrade, not just in the
aethetics, but in the underlying engineering modernization. I was not
attacking the wedges at all - I only wanted to point out that there are
some of us who loved/liked the older cars, and ALSO enthusiastically liked
the newer cars. Plus, my dad wouldn't be caught in an 8 or a spit, which
gets a son out from under that.

I like the 3, and I liked the 4, but I ultimately think the later Spits
(square tails, pre big black bumpers) are the best looking of the swoopier
body styles. The square tail improved the Spit, IMHO, and didn't help the
6 (the 4/5/250 looks better to me). I think the wedge is a sexy looking
car.

I just wanted to make the comment about the rattling bodies of the older
cars, with tongue in cheek.
