Just a comment FWIW. It's clear to me in the UK that the US and Europe generally have different methods for calculating octane. We use RM for 'research method, whereas I think you guys in the US have a comparable fuel, though the octane is measured differently?

I was taken for a ride in one of the last US spec Spitfires less than a month ago that had been re-imported to the UK. Only done 7000 miles since new!!!! It still had all the energy sapping features in place and even though it was set-up 'as original' - there was just no way it would do more than 60mph. I had heard later Spits were *equally matched* to lawnmowers in performance - but this car was so slow and gutless it was hard to believe anyone would want to buy one that was this slow. I'm not slagging off Spits in any way - but this example was SO disappointing.
