I had major oil consumption problems with my 92 SL2. About 4 quarts or more between changes, which would vary depending on my driving habits. I kept a case of oil in the trunk at all times. I was running 20w50 at the time of the engine rebuild of 125,000 miles. After the break in period I switched to synthetic 10w30 Mobile One and don't have to add a single drop of oil in between oil changes.
Tom Our '98 SL is sucking oil. About 1/2 a quart a week. There's a small bit of smoke from the tail pipe when accelerating from a stop but not an enormous amount. I'm currently using 5W30 full synthetic. Should I change back to non-synthetic or maybe even to non-synthetic and a heavier weight?
