Since I'm a rookie on SPORRS I hope I've sent this note following the
proper format. I've been chasing and photographing trains now for almost
nine years and one of the best shots I've got was of the Frisco 1522 on
a foggy morning. I remember being bummed out that it was overcast to
the point of fog, and that the lighting was going to press the limits of
my slow lens, but I had a train to catch. Luckily the 1522 stopped on a
truss bridge over the Merrimac River and "flushed" itself out. I shot
away with the attitude that something was better than nothing. What I
got back in the dark room was a steam and fog shrouded steamer with only
it's smoke box and pilot wheels sticking out. I couldn't have done
better had I burned and dodged the image in the dark room. The fact
that it was a B/W shot just made it all that much better. I'll have to
pass that image on to Dave and let him play around with it on his
scanner.
One of the best weather shots was the Railnews cover of the Texas
Panhandle tornado (circa June 1995) near Pampa, TX and the Santa Fe
mainline.
