I agree with the comentary on the importance of framing and composition, however
I must question if this is just one person's opinion being passed as an accepted
standard.  Is it more important to take photos that are pleasing to  the eye and
taste of  you, the photographer, or photos that comform to a so-called standard 
?
Actually, I don't really like photos that are composed using the rule of thirds 
-
I prefer halves.  My point is that we are all participants in a hobby that is an
expression of  our creativity and I feel a little uncomfortable being told that
to excel in the hobby I must conform to any standard at all.
