The use of long lenses isn't always very obvious.  One of my own favorite 
shots from recent years -- if you permit me to bring an image not on the

That shot was made with my 300mm 2.8.  It is also cropped very slightly
to fit my site's standard format.  I have photos of both one train alone
and with trains on both tracks -- with another inbound empty passing
the depicted train (which was sitting still for a while very close to where
it is depicted -- but like the single train picture better.
