Engineers are properly concerned when they see "tresspassers" crowding the rails. He could also be a railfan concerned for your AF and AE problems caused by programmed exposures. Before I stopped using programmed exposure I got a lot of badly underexposed slides because the meter was keying on the ditch lights. My recommendation is to use manual exposure only and stay at least twenty feet perpendicular from the rails. Shoot at a longer range and shallower angle.
