It is rock steady when released and really easy to use for fast framing adjustments at trackside. It cost less than 100$. Why would I want to purchase a $300 ballhead that is infinitely less flexible as I have noticed that many professionals and advanced amatuers do? Is this something like Kodachrome chic or is there something I am missing? Yeah, there is something you are missing, but it's an excellent question though. My Arca-Swiss B1 ballheads hold 90 lbs (pressure - they don't slip when you hold them down and press on them), and they work so smooth and slick with their dampening control that there is no way to describe one if you have not used one. If you have the opportunity to try one, you will have to buy one. I'm not going to put my $10000 lens and camera combo on a Bogen pistol grip and watch it slip and fall over and crash to the ground. I don't doubt that it works great for you Bob, but I think my lens might be bigger than yours, because those pistol grips are only meant for light loads. I found them awkward (and slipping) for vertical compositions too. There is a big difference between the big pro ballheads and the Bogens, not just in price. I had to learn that the hard way, by owning them all.
