The BNSF Hannibal Subdivision very closely follows the river here on a wide sweeping curve, and shots of north and southbounders can be had at all times of the day, due to the length of the curve. Train traffic has picked up quite a bit there recently with mostly coal trains. You can expect about 4 coal trains a day each way, plus the Arco turn, and also grain trains. The best part is it is just a few miles away from BNSF's Marceline Subdivision, and when track warrants are issued by the dispatcher for the "K-Line" its a quick run to the are from Ft. Madison. >> I'll agree with this spot! When I lived in Ft. Madison (1979-1985) the traffic on the River line was very light and I only managed 2 real good shots there. Tremendous spot in the afternoon.
