The other side of this "Sticky" question is what code the AHj was using at
the time the design/layout and installation were approved. In 1985, it could
have been a much older version of 13. (This is Mote, with David's info below
but always worth remembering.)
The follow up is always "It was approved by the AHJ" at the time, so did
they knowingly make an AHJ allowed "Exception" or simply miss it in review?
If review was even required?
Every "OLD" system seems to create as many questions as opportunities.

1985 Edition allowed dry gridded systems to 500 gallon capacity with the
exceptions for sub-dividing with check valves and the 60 second rule.
1987 Edition gridded dry systems shall not be installed.

Subject: Gridded Dry System
Can anyone tell me what edition of 13 they added that dry systems could
not
be grids? I looked at the 83 and could not find anything. I surveyed a
existing dry system in a saw mill the other day and they had the dry
system
as a grid, it was installed in 85'.
