We had elevator inspectors make us go down in the pit and put a head guard
on the sprinkler - guess that cage would protect it from breaking if the car
came all the way down. Wouldn't want to drown anyone........

I think, with rare exceptions, we can all agree that:
MOST PE's or EoR's are clueless WRT sprinklers.
MOST AHJs/3rd parties lack the mastery of the intricacies of design to be
relied upon for comprehensive review and inspection
Therefore, I believe we need to have a working knowledge of the building
codes, insofar as it affects and applies to our work;
Have a detailed knowledge of the applicable NFPA codes;
If applicable, know what local amendments affect our work;
Understand the variability of water supplies, perform tests and adjust for
lowest task gradient;
Anticipate the problems your installers will face and include sufficient
cushion to cover additional fittings.

If you want to offer your customers more, know the upcoming edition of the
code so you can apply it when it helps, or bid to the way you'll do it next
year.

Sure, you can just erlicate what a clueless PE did and seek CO's when
applicable, and score a victory you can install to code if they decide to
pay it, but I think that if you offer less than the above, you're part of
the problem, just like the clueless PE, not part of the solution. Worse, you
know better.

I keep a vision of myself facing a widow's lawyer in court, that helps make
good decisions.

Hello Bill,

We put em in here Myrtle Beach area of SC ...

So the elevator tech or alarm tech can shut off the water after he
uses the head in the pit to hang his drop light on.....

Happened twice here in the last year.
