If that's an issue, you could use a line dryer on the air compressor.
There are ways of getting around the internal moisture issue.  It's just
like when you're protecting a freezer and don't want any moisture in the
pipe.

Otherwise, my guess is a good as yours, it would be nice sometimes if
the writers of these "do's and don'ts" would give us a little bit of
"why".

This was the first thought I had but that still leaves you with a damp
and humid environment. In fact, as the compressor replaces leaking air
sans moisture, the damp, humid environment should be enhanced. This
explanation then accounts for freezing, but so would 40 degrees F, but
not corrosion, so I don't see where 130 degrees F influences the need
for galvanized or not. No science here, just random thoughts so I'm
prepared for refutation
