I think Jim has one of those "No Building Left Behind" zero SF sprinkler
ordinances, including residential :)

Sounds a lot like a porte cochere (spelling?). I see no reason thta
this would be exempt from sprinklering unless the entire building was
too small to require sprinklers at all.
