Maybe you can in SC, but in PA if you run thru an electrical or elev equip room on the way to another room, you'll be ripping out pipe, installing a plug, and re-routing your feed.
You can run into them and protect the space. As far as service clearances, generally when you're at the ceiling, you are most likely outside of that "sacred" space.
