Dear Forum,
Fully sprinklered ALF building, Detached Porte Cochere 500 SF, with no connectors at all to the building. Does the porte cochere have to be sprinklered. IBC shows it should be a U occupancy <1000 sf so doesn't require separation distances. I looked in the archives but didn't see specifics on this scenario. Issue is the Fire Marshal has approved no sprinklers, the state inspector DADS states that it requires them. Problem is getting any pipe to it. It would probably be easier to put in underground stub up to a separate riser. Inspector wants the NFPA "Code" to say it doesn't require sprinklers. We all know the NFPA "standard" doesn't say anything of this nature. I just hate telling the Builder he has to screw up his pretty building with a 2" anti freeze system for 8 spks passing exposed to the PC. Any help or suggestions, or is it indeed required to be sprinklered? Thanks, Don Lowry, R.M.E. Dickerson Fire Protection, Inc.
