Our typical (Non-Seismic) installation above a ceiling is 8-1/2" to center
of pipe. This allows us to use a 6" nipple and reducer to recessed heads.
This normally requires a 1'-0" Min. space below duct work for elect, lights,
sprinkler and support hangers for the duct work, since BOD will require an
additional 1" to 3" for supports depending on size of duct

Garth,

Are you in a seismic zone? I've found high to be better when you have a lot
of bracing but I'd otherwise agree with your comments.
