Kevin-
Do you flow water and measure it monthly? What about annually? Still on a
14 y.o. standard?
Tom Duross

The National Fire Code of Canada (1995) 6.6.3.3 allows for a monthly run
test for electrically driven pumps.
In the appendix it also states: "Centrifugal fire pumps should not be
operated for prolonged periods under shut-off conditions, that is, with no
water flowing from the system" "because of the excessive wear on impellors
due to the caviation, and on seals and thrust bearings due to the higher
operating pressure and increased vibrations. Water should be discharged from
the system if possible."

Here we run our monthly tests (200hp Aurora 2000 usgpm) through the test
header to confirm proper flow and operation of the pump controllers.
