No potable standards imposed yet that I'm aware of, just that the BFP be on the
discharge side. Not sure of the impetus ...

Steve,

Good to know. Are they expecting the pump to be merely ductile or are
they requiring one of those impossible to find at a price that won't
break the Bank of Dubai pumps listed for per AWWA and UL?FM. Just had
that come up on a private pump for a college campus where the EOR said
it had to meet both criteria because there were fire lines off the
dual duty loop. He was finally convinced that that loop for this small
city sized campus was similar to a municipal loop and so the pump
didn't need to rated for fire service. Then on the on-campus the high
rises that needed booster pumps anyways and were off dedicated lines
attached to the loop the pumps were UL/FM listed. My favorite Navy
backflow install entailed a six inch riser splitting into a six inch
bulk main and a four inch bulk main at about thirty feet off the
floor. On the four in main (remember this is after the split) there is
a four inch RPBA (remember thirty feet off the ground) installed with
mega-lugs and rodding (guess what kind of contractor got that bid) and
it's all over some machinery for a certain type of weapons testing
(wish I could supply a photo but it's one of those have a camera and
go to jail forever places). I pointed this out to the Navy Fire
Department inspector years ago. This was years ago and hopefully it
went to whomever is responsible (maybe the NAVFAC) and it's been
corrected by now. Same building had the overhead crane grounded to the
 sprinkler system.
