Interesting twist on your interpretation. Is 8.15.7 simply saying that the listed head can be used for composite wood joists, or saying it can be used for composite wood joist applications without necessarily complying with the listing requirements? If Tyco did not complicate things by giving composte wood joist applications, life would have been much simpler.
Anyway what happened to the minimum 2" heat channel given in 2002? If I'm not mistaken Tyco listing was the same for 2002. Would you get the heat channel with the joist space filled with insulation? Meanwhile, I'm going with standard quick response heads. I know the CC heads will be better. But at least I can defend the use of std. heads as being not prohibited by NFPA. Obviously must be a concealed space no more than 36 inches from deck to deck but specifically must have a combustible upper surface with wood trusses or solid wood joist and be horizontal. ALL OF THOSE PARAMETERS must be in place. The really interesting part is that if it contains composite wood joists and one elects to use a listed sprinkler (since they work better in since narrow spaces), 8.15.1.7 allows their use without applying the listing requirement for the channels to be filled with insulation.
